Urban archeology is all around if you look...

Windmill Pine has a pair of overhead cranes, each rated up to 10 tons - which is a bit excessive for hefting furniture. Besides which, WP used the cranes as ad-hoc mountings for air ducts - rendering them immovable - which suggests this building owes the greater part of it's heritage to heavy engineering...

Sited on the location of the Wm Foster tractor works [inventors and manufacturers of the world's first tanks], and just across the road from Rustons [a peace time competitor and fellow tank works], it wouldn't surprise me if this buliding was used for the production of heavy [agricultural?] equipment at some point.

There was one of these at Rose Bros Gainsborough were I briefly worked as an apprentice many years ago...the operator had a small cabin at one end were he spent his whole shift looking down on everybody.
